High Pines Equipment was born from a love of craftsmanship and the outdoors. I first tried forging knives as a kid, turning out mostly pointed pieces of scrap metal and bent wrenches.
As I grew into my teens, camping and hiking became a bigger part of my life, and I always carried a knife, usually from one of the larger production companies. In college I returned to knife making, initially as a way to avoid the hefty price tags of commercial knives. I started by forging everything by hand in my yard with charcoal and a Shop Vac. Quickly i found ways to streamline and simplify the process, and realized I could make and design knives for the way I actually used them, rather than settling for common design themes for models labeled “Survival” or “Tactical,” many of which felt more like props than tools.
I began creating knives that were functional and dependable for real outdoor adventures. As time went on I refined my process, and switched from forging to CNC machining, while still keeping the hand fit and finish that became characteristic of my products. I continually tested them on trips and found their strengths and flaws, and over time I refined my designs to best meet the needs of real-world use.
my goal became to make knives that didn’t require mental gymnastics to justify their place in my pack. I wanted no-brainer tools that easily earned their place in outdoor kits.
High Pines Equipment continues to grow with the same spirit of making real knives for real use.
